The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Bransholme Health Centre will now open from 9am – 10pm, seven days a week, with immediate effect.

People in Hull are able to access the MIU for treatment of injuries which require immediate treatment, but which are not serious enough to attend Accident and Emergency (A&E), such as; cuts and wounds, sprains and strains, stings, bites and burns.

Erica Daley, Director of Integrated Commissioning said:

“Over winter we are much more likely to need treatment for minor injuries like twisted ankles or burns. Increasing the opening hours at Bransholme MIU will mean patients who need treatment are able to get it quickly and conveniently at the MIU without having to attend A&E.”

Approval has also recently been given to plans to develop a 24 hour, 7 day urgent care centre at Bransholme Health Centre from April 2017.

The Urgent Care Centre will provide medical treatment to those who need it immediately, but whose situation is not critical enough for A&E. This will include treatment for minor injuries and an x-ray facility.

Board members considered a report on the outcome of the extensive 12-week public consultation led by the CCG on three options for the future of urgent care services in Hull.

Members unanimously agreed to move forward with the implementation of option two, which relocates the minor injuries unit (MIU) from the Freedom Centre and GP out-of-hours from Diadem Health Centre to Bransholme Health Centre, creating an ‘Urgent Care Centre’ at the site. During the formal consultation, the agreed option was backed by 63.72% of respondents as their first choice.

Further to this, engagement with the communities surrounding the Freedom Centre will take place to determine what health services could be appropriately offered at the centre, based on the needs of children and families.
