Health organisations from across Hull and East Yorkshire are once again joining forces to present the biggest showcase of healthcare and innovation from across the region.

Organised by Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), East Riding of Yorkshire CCG, City Health Care Partnership CIC and Humber NHS Foundation Trust, the 2017 Hull and East Riding Health Expo will this year take place at Hull City Hall on 19 October.

Opening at 9.30am with a short address from local boxer and champion of health and fitness, Tommy Coyle, there will follow a packed schedule of performances, demonstrations and even a Question Time session with local health bosses, all taking place on the main stage before coming to a close at 5pm.

The main stage schedule will be complemented by an exciting exhibition throughout the day, including a wide range of fun activities, workshops, health advice from clinicians and experts and much, much more.

Those who are looking to pursue a career in the NHS, or simply want to find out about the diverse range of careers available in the NHS, will want to make sure they give the careers fair a visit. If you want some help and advice on becoming a little bit healthier and fitter, you will not want to miss out on the health and wellbeing zone, where you can even make your own fruit smoothie from just a few minutes of cycling.

For the early birds who arrive in the morning there will be a chance to have your photo taken with the rugby league Challenge Cup, courtesy of current champions Hull FC. You’ll have to be quick, the trophy will only be available up until noon.

The theme for this year’s Hull and East Riding Health Expo is ‘Arts in Health’, which fits in nicely with Hull being the current UK City of Culture. Martin Green, Chief Executive of the Hull 2017 City of Culture Team will be giving a talk and there will be a live performance of the official City of Culture song by local band Follow Deep (formally known as Underground Owls), as well as a number of art and culture themed activities taking place throughout the day.

The finale of the Health Expo will be a short awards ceremony, celebrating teams and individuals who deserve recognition for their hard work, innovation and overall contribution to the health and wellbeing of patients and the wider public across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Gina Palumbo, Local GP and Chair of East Riding of Yorkshire CCG has said,

“Last year’s Health Expo was a wonderful event. As well as being a fun and enjoyable day it was a fantastic opportunity to encourage and empower our residents to make positive lifestyle choices, keeping them and their family healthy, and reducing the risk of becoming ill.

“This year the event is going to be even bigger and better, and will once again provide a unique chance of gaining a better understanding of local health and wellbeing services available for the whole family.”

City Health Care Partnership CIC’s chief executive Andrew Burnell, who will also be ‘trying a mile’ with Fitmums around the city centre, said,

“We are really looking forward to celebrating the fantastic work that’s going on in our local health services. It’s also a great opportunity to show the public, the people who use those services, what’s out there for them and what we’re all doing to improve and innovate.

“But the Health Expo won’t only be informative, we hope it’ll be fun as well, with something for everyone. Whether you want to have a cup of tea in the Dementia Kitchen, hang out with health visitors in the children and families’ area or get involved with a bit of art and crafts, you’re guaranteed to enjoy your visit.”

Michele Moran, Chief Executive of Humber NHS Foundation Trust, added,

“Health Expo 2017 is an excellent opportunity to showcase the fantastic health and wellbeing services we have in Hull and East Riding.

“It is important that people are aware of and can access these services as we work with them to improve their health and strive to realise our goal of ensuring they can ‘start well, live well and age well’.

“To have many of the services and their latest innovations under one roof at such a marvellous event is not to be missed. We hope everyone who attends will be impressed and inspired by all the good work that the NHS and other healthcare services are doing in Hull and East Riding. We look forward to seeing them there.”

Myles Howell, Director of Communications and Staff Engagement at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said,

“This is the second year in which local NHS and health organisations have come together to host the Hull and East Riding Health Expo. The NHS holds a special place in many people’s affections, so we chose to bring this year’s event right into the heart of the city. In the 2017 City of Culture year, we want to place health and healthcare very much at centre of what is great about our region, and show just how much innovation and good work there is going on here.

“As well as receiving expert advice on issues ranging from back pain and dementia right through to caring for children, the theme for our event is ‘Arts in Health’, so we have a few fun and artistic surprises in store for our visitors on the day too.

“We very much hope people can join us to celebrate the contribution made by the many thousands of healthcare workers locally to keeping our city happy and healthy.”

Dr Dan Roper, Chair of Hull CCG added,

“As Hull 2017 major partners we were keen to see a health and culture theme this year for Health Expo, especially with the event taking place a stone’s throw from visitor attractions like the Turner Prize exhibition.

“It is also great to see community and voluntary organisations like the Hull Man’s Club and CASE Training joining the NHS organisations showcasing excellent work going on in our region to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing.”

The 2017 Hull and East Riding Health Expo is taking place on Thursday 19 October and will run from 9.30am until 5pm. Entry is free and members of the public can come and go as they please.
