From 1 July 2022, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will be dissolved, and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) will take over the responsibility for NHS functions and budgets. We will become part of NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB. You can continue to use this website to find the information you need, which remains relevant for the Hull area.

Transgender patient experience

Everyone should feel safe to access care through the NHS without fear of discrimination or prejudice. Hull Health and Care Partnership will continue to learn, listen and share best practice to improve experiences for transgender (trans) patients.

Here you’ll find details of the work underway to improve transgender patient experiences. You’ll also find further resources to support your organisation be trans friendly.

Work so far

In October 2022, Hull Health and Care Partnership hosted a citywide learning session for primary care staff. The session raised awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion issues in healthcare, with a focus on trans and LGBTQ+ care.

Following feedback from the session, Hull Health and Care Partnership developed a Transgender Awareness Week toolkit for GP practices. This included posters and cards to improve understanding of trans terminology. It also included co-produced guides detailing simple things primary care teams can do to make a difference.

In September 2021, Hull Health and Care Partnership (then NHS Hull CCG) hosted a Transgender Patient Experience event with a focus on patient records.

The event brought together stakeholders across the health system to learn and share together, with a view to doing better. NHS England’s LGBTQ+ Health Programme Team, the Yorkshire and Humber EDI Network and City Health Care Partnership (CIC) all got involved.

Future Developments

Hull Health and Care Partnership is working to capture transgender patient experiences and work with the transgender community to inform training and improved practice in primary care.
