The Humber Learning Consortium’s (HLC) Springboard Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) is joining forces with NHS Hull CCG, to launch a series of roadshows across local health centres, to raise awareness of the support available for 16-29 year olds to help them back into work.
During March and April pop up stands will be appearing in Bransholme, Orchard Park, Marfleet, Wilberforce and Elliott Chappell and Longhill health centres, offering information on the range of programmes on offer to help young people develop skills needed to get closer to the labour market.
Upcoming events include:
- Thurs 28 March – Marfleet Health Centre
- Mon April 1 – Orchard Park Health Centre
- Tues April (TBC) – Bransholme Health Centre
- Thurs 25 April – Longhill Health Centre
Ben Fletcher, ESF Springboard YEI Manager, said:
“The health centre roadshows follow the success of our shopping centre pop ups, which along with partner marketing activity, have helped to achieve just over 2000 starts onto Springboard over the last three years. These achievements in turn helped us to secure further investment of £5m, to extend the project until 2022, so we can support even more local young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“We hope by being in the busy Hull health centres we will be able to meet lots more young people who need support with anything from confidence building, mental health, childcare, hidden or physical disability, Maths and English qualifications or even work preparation. Our partners will be there on the stand to talk about the variety of programmes we have on offer.”
Dr Dan Roper, chair of NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), commented:
“It’s a great pleasure for the CCG and our local health partners to support this roadshow. A person’s health is affected by many different factors, not just our physical wellbeing. Housing, money, relationships and work can all affect how we feel.
“With this in mind, helping young people back into education and work can also help to improve their mental and physical health.”
Springboard YEI is funded through the European Social Fund and is supported by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). It is made up of 7 delivery partners. The Warren Youth Project, CHCP – City Health Care Partnership, Prince’s Trust, MC4C – Making Changes for Careers, Hull City Council, Hull Training, and the Goodwin Development Trust.
Through this unique programme, anyone who is currently not in education or training and lives in Hull can get help with access to the following; becoming self-employed, retail and warehouse, business administration, mental health support, construction trades, sports, event management, marketing, gallery experience, lone parent programmes, English and Maths support, creative media such as graphic design and games design, hospitality, employability and job search support.
