Healthy eating

The choices we make about how we live can have a significant effect on our health. A healthy, nutritious diet can benefit individuals in many ways.

When it comes to a healthy diet, balance is the key to getting it right. This means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. The ‘Eatwell Plate’ highlights the different types of food that make up our diet, and shows the proportions we should eat them in to have a well-balanced and healthy diet.

Commercial slimming clubs, such as Weight Watchers and Slimming World are also widely available across the city and can offer support in weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight. Contact these directly to discuss your options.

Remember: if you have a long term health condition or have a BMI of 30 or above, it may be important that you consult with your GP before undertaking a new diet. If you fall into this category and you’re worried about your weight speak with your GP.
