Why has The Deep joined Working Voices?
Louise Kirby, Ops & Personnel Manager said:
“The Deep is delighted to be forging links with NHS Hull and to be part of the Working Voices initiative. With over 160 members of staff, The Deep is an active employer of local residents and we can see the benefits of helping our crew to give their opinions about the NHS, to the NHS, when consultation is being sought. Doing this in a conventional way can be difficult for those of us who work unusual shift patterns; in the leisure and tourism industry we work when others play!
“The Deep also sees this as opportunity for its workforce to voice its needs for how the NHS can support healthy living, working together as a supportive community to promote positive lifestyle choices.”
About The Deep
Home to over 3,500 fish including Europe’s only pair of Green sawfish, magnificent sharks and rays, Loggerhead sea turtles and a colony of Gentoo penguins, The Deep is a spectacular aquarium, which tells the story of the world’s oceans, travelling through a unique blend of spectacular marine life from warm tropical waters to the cold Antarctic seas but it is much more than just an aquarium.
The Deep are an education and conservation charity and as such, conservation is at the heart of everything we do. It is because of our loyal visitors that we are able to carry out vital research and conservation work, both in-house, in the UK and right across the world.
The Deep team are passionate about protecting the oceans and the species that live within, so our projects all focus on the aquatic environment. From protecting endangered penguins in Antarctica, to monitoring Manta Ray populations in the Red Sea or safeguarding the future of endangered animals, our dedicated team of Aquarists are carrying out pioneering work.
Situated just a short stroll from the Marina and city centre, The Deep is in the perfect location for visitors to enjoy the city of Hull and all it has to offer as City of Culture for 2017. It is the most successful Millennium Commission project which has now welcomed more than 6.5 million visitors since opening in 2002.
The dramatic building was designed by world class architects Sir Terry Farrell and partners as part of the regeneration of Hull and it became an internationally recognised landmark, which featured on a Royal Mail stamp.
